Treatment Process
Putting Patients First
Here at HITC, we understand that any medical procedure or surgery, no matter how large or small can be stressful. Dealing with hospitals and insurance agencies, the emotional and physical demands, and the worry of making sure the surgery is successful can quickly take its toll.
You can be confident that we try to make this process, from start to finish as easy as possible for the patient and the parents. From initial consultation, to travel, to follow-up appointments, we're right here with you.
Below are the most common processes that we use to assist you through hemangioma and vascular anomaly treatment. If you're ready to make the smart move and begin this process with us, please contact us.
Tell us about the patient
Like in just about everything, we initially need some background and research information. This could include any previous treatments, clinical information, MRI's previous diagnosis, and most importantly, photos. If you have it, we need to see it.
This allows Dr. Hochman to more accurately give an initial evaluation before any treatment is scheduled, and any travel plans are made.

Preliminary Treatment Plan
Your information is then reviewed by our staff and Dr. Hochman to select an appropriate course of action for treatment. He uses years of experience in leading the field of hemangioma and vascular birthmark treatment to provide feedback and recommendations specific to your case.
Options include:
- Additional photos
- Additional medical history
- Further imaging studies - can be set up at your local hospital
- Surgical, medical and/or laser options and in-person consultation
Appointment for Definitive Consultation
If your case requires surgery or a more invasive treatment, Dr. Hochman wants to evaluate the birthmark. After treating hundreds of birthmarks, he understands the signs and characteristics of individual afflictions, and what kind of results to expect. This needs to be done in person.
A staff member will contact you to assist in setting up travel arrangements and your appointment. If you are traveling a great distance, this can even be scheduled within the week of surgery to save on travel costs.
Concierge Service
The stress of traveling is the last thing you need to be worrying about before you or your loved one goes into surgery.
We have partnerships with local travel agents, and our staff will assist in facilitating your entire itinerary. Charleston is a beautiful place to visit, and although not here for vacation, there are some great items you will want to not miss.

Follow-up and your local physician
Our staff will coordinate follow-up appointments as conveniently as possible. Most follow-up visits are simply cleaning any wounds to prevent scarring, changing bandages, and making sure the patient is on the full road to recovery. For some examples, be sure to view our
before & afters.
Secondly, we ensure your primary care physician is aware of the entire treatment plan. They are notified, and all documentation will be transferred to their offices in addition to Dr. Hochman speaking with him/her regarding any special notes and or treatment.
